Washington DC Mayor Vincent C. Gray To Support Big Tigger's 4th Annual HIV/AIDS Ride For Life To Raise Awareness Among Area Residents

WASHINGTON, DC, August 10, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- District of Columbia Mayor Vincent C. Gray announced his official support of Big Tigger's 4th Annual HIV/AIDS Ride For Life. TV and radio personality, Big Tigger, received the highly anticipated vow of support from Mayor Gray to support the motorcycle charity ride designed to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and promote prevention. Presented by Suzuki and the Street Corner Foundation (SCF), Big Tigger's 4th Annual HIV/AIDS Ride For Life will kick off on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie Maryland and conclude at United Medical Center in Washington, DC.

"With the District of Columbia working to reduce an alarming 3 percent HIV/AIDS infection rate, the need for community partners and the city to collaborate in ending new infections is paramount," states Mayor Gray. "We are pleased to support Big Tigger's 4th Annual HIV/AIDS Ride For Life as a part of our collective effort to end the epidemic."

Earlier this year, Gray announced the creation of the Mayor's Commission on HIV/AIDS to help end the epidemic in the District of Columbia. Uniting leaders from the medical, faith-based and business communities, the Commission is charged with compiling best practices in reducing the infection rate with an emphasis on treatment, addressing the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS and prevention.

Coupled with Maryland's alarming rate of reported HIV and AIDS cases, Washington, DC's staggering infection rate makes the nation's capital an ideal stage to showcase the united commitment to raise awareness and to renew our sense of urgency about HIV/AIDS as a national health problem. With the support of Mayor Gray, the goal of Big Tigger's 4th Annual HIV/AIDS Ride For Life is to echo the Foundation's message to "Get Tested. Know Your Status."

RIDE FOR LIFE will bring together approximately 2,000 bikers and enthusiasts for the extraordinary motorcycle charity ride and grand finale event. Hosted by Big Tigger, RIDE FOR LIFE will begin at 7:00 am on Saturday, August 13th at Prince George's Stadium (Baysox Stadium) in Bowie, MD for registration and staging. At 12:00 noon, Big Tigger will lead the convoy of veteran and new riders on the 23.4 mile trek and will conclude at United Medical Center in Washington DC for the grand finale event. Focusing on free health screening and HIV testing, the grand finale will be fun-filled day featuring live music, entertainment, food and merchandise vendors. Additionally, Suzuki will sponsor the RIDE FOR LIFE bike raffle giving participants an opportunity to win a choice of a 2011 Suzuki GSX-R100, Suzuki Hayabusa or Suzuki M109R.
