California Based SONscreen Film Festival Puts the Spotlight on the Brightest at Special Atlanta Showcase June 26 -27, 2010
The showcase will feature new student films, award-winning films from the past seven SONscreen Film Festivals, independently produced films and the acclaimed three-part documentary series "Stained Glass" .
SILVER SPRING, MD, June 24, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- This year the international SONscreen Film Festival lands in Georgia for a special showcase featuring new student films and professional independent films that will be screened along with winning pieces from the past seven festivals on Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27, 2010. On Thursday, July 1 an encore of the 2010 award-winning films and the acclaimed three-part documentary series "Stained Glass" will be screened. A film industry panel will take place Sunday, June 27th with Christian professionals Tommy Ford, film and TV actor (from "Martin" sitcom)/ producer; Warren Judd, CEO Adventist Media Productions "AMP Studios"; Paul Kim, award-winning film producer/director; Cheryl Jenkins, TV/Film Producer/CFO of PACS; Brian Bazemore, Director and Melody George, award winning film director will be the moderator. An awards presentation and reception will be held Sunday evening, June 27th. The festival will take place at the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State University, 80 Forsyth St. NW, Atlanta, GA (1 mile from Georgia World Congress Center). Festival producer Stacia D. Wright explains the change in location, "Over 50,000 people will be in Atlanta for the international General Conference Session of Seventh-day Adventists. SONscreen is sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America. We wanted international attendees to have an opportunity to be exposed to the incredible creative talent of the young people in the church to show how it is and how it can be uses as a powerful ministry tool. Next year we will return to AMP studios in Simi Valley, April 7 - 9, 2011."
Festival Schedule
The schedule will feature eighteen new films, nineteen previous SONscreen award-winning films and one part of the acclaimed three part documentary series "Stained Glass". It begins Saturday, June 26th with film screenings from 6 - 8 p.m., "Stained Glass" will screen from 8 - 10 p.m. Featured segment being "Stained Glass: Grand Ave." based out of Oakland, CA. All three segments will be screened on Thursday, July 1. There will be Q&A with the filmmakers after each session. On Sunday, June 27th films will screen from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A "Meet the Filmmakers" lunch will take place from 12 - 2 p.m. From 2 - 4 p.m. is the industry and ministry panel, "Changing the World 24 Frames per Second: How can Film and Other Visual Media Serve the Mission of the Church?" Film screenings resume from 4 - 6 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. The 2010 Awards Presentation and Closing Reception is from 9 - 10 p.m. Thursday, July 1 from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. will feature an encore screening of the 2010 award-winning films and the acclaimed three-part documentary series "Stained Glass" in its entirety.
About the SONscreen Film Festival
The focus of the festival is to act as a conduit directly to students and create a community for mentoring, education, and hands-on exposure to top industry professionals in the field in a unique intimate setting. Several alumni who submitted their first film as a college student, have continued in the film industry as working professionals, and collaborated with professional attendees they met at the festival, and have even become official SONscreen executive committee members. SONscreen also provides high school students with film scholarships through the Jonathan Dulan Collegiate Scholarship program and is adding a $500 cash award for the 2010 winners.
